Sometimes projects come together quickly. I can envision them right away, and execute them as soon as I have the time. Done and done. Other times I have to dance with them awhile. And that is how it's been designing the invitations for our Isia's 3rd birthday. I wanted to include her beloved butterflies but all my attempts just kept looking so... cloying. So instead I doctored up a picture of Isia in Photoshop and gave her wings. Because who doesn't want to give their kiddo wings?
Now for the printing and sending off to family and a few of our little friends. And the deciding what to make her. As I've begun to sew more for her, she's realized that things are either bought or made. So she'll pick out a dress and ask, "Mama sew this or from the store?" And if it's from the store, "Who bought it for me?" She's going to keep me on my toes, this one. Maybe I need some wings too! (smile)
Where does a year go? It's never ceases to amaze when a little one in our life reaches this milestone. And these are pictures of our dear little friend Eliza; Once a little wrinkled bitty of a baby girl and now a walking, gesturing little girl. A little girl whom I had the joy to photograph as her first birthday quickly approached.
It's amazing to me as a Mama how long each season of babyhood seems to last- wrinkled to plump, laying down to rolling over, etc.- and then, poof!, it's all gone. Well not completely, of course, we still have our little ones to enjoy and the pictures to prove how little they once were. Because they might not believe it someday... and neither may we! (smile)

"A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from
the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to
pause, savor and remember."

. . . . . . . .
*Hmm... see the back of a beautiful quilt? The front's even better! Stay tuned next week for the story (wink).
We've been in full-blown garden season for awhile now. Our seeds are coming up and our watering is still underway as our seedlings build up those strong root systems that will enable them to be more independent. There are many similarities between the little ones I nurture in my arms with those we nurture in the soil. Both are daily reminders of humility and how much I have to learn, with a good deal of joy and pride tossed in. Working in the soil is also a way to embrace my soil-loving heritage (more, here) and something worth passing on. To spark Isia's love of gardening we read lots of nature books, and, of course, create art about our garden.
