...and this is the the first thing I created. A repurposed applesauce jar with a little label of paint on it. My method involved painting a freehand rectangle on the jar, then applying two additional coats when dry. It's a little bumpy, but I think that adds to its charm. For a more refined label you could use any rectangular stencil- a label sticker outline, painting tape, etc.- and you could even sand each layer lightly with a fine grit of sandpaper. Be warned though, if you fill the jar with granola your label might be easily overlooked as all your kiddos scramble to get to the contents within! (wink)

After a bout of very unseasonal dryness, and untimely with all of our growing garden vegetation, we finally had a burst of rain last week. What better way to celebrate than with some more rain art?

Once upon a time, Isia and I were designing invitations, here, to get some neighbors together for some coffee and cake and planning. Because there had been whispers of a block party of a few summers now, but summer had passed much faster than our planning. We were not to be foiled again. There was going to be a block party. And then on Saturday, there was:




Did you notice the two bands? And all those music & community lovin' folk? (Over seventy in all!) There was also food on hand and lots of kiddos running around.

As we spend more time out-doors, we bring more of it back in-doors within us. The grass I find as I sweep the floors. The sand that collects in pockets of clothing then spills out on the bathroom floor. The rosy cheeks and limbs that keep darkening in spite of vigilant sunscreen application. And, of course, rocks.
